Happy New Year, K-Plus families! We are having a great week, and are right back to our routines. The kids seem to have grown over the holidays, and we have picked up right where we left off! Winter Gear - Thank you for sending in a reusable bag for carrying snow gear back and forth between classes. It really helps the students stay organized at the beginning and end of each day. We are adding names to the "Zip Up Club" every day. It's great to have a list of friends who can help with zippers. We expect that our "Shoe Crew" will fill up soon as those little hands practice lacing and tying! Foodie Friday!
What fun we had turning apples into applesauce! Yesterday’s Center Time included our “mise en place” (chef-speak for “make preparations”) for our first cooking project. After thoroughly washing hands and apples, our young foodies went straight to work! Students turned the crank on Grandma Harrison’s Apple Peeling Machine, and were impressed with how quickly 21 apples were peeled and sliced (into spirals!) Our chefs then cut the slices into smaller pieces and placed them into a water and lemon juice bath overnight. We explored every part of the apple, measuring the long peels, and dissecting the cores to find seeds with magnifying glasses and tweezers. Today we put the apples into a crock pot with some cinnamon and maple syrup to cook and “mush” into applesauce. The result was a tasty treat for our 2nd Foodie Friday! It's hard to believe we are nearing the end of September! We've settled into a routine, and are ready to jump into new centers, choices and experiences. We have started introducing social-emotional concepts during our circle time using photographs, puppets, role plays and group talks. Our focus this week is on "Fair Ways to Play", and we have seen kids practicing their sharing, taking turns, playing together, and trading toys! Peanuts and nuts for LUNCH are okay, as we have a dedicated allergy-free area for our students. Thank you for your help keeping all of our students safe! These students are allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and strict avoidance of the allergen is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction. It is important that we create a safe learning environment for all students. August 30, 2019 Hello K-Plus Families! We are happy to report that our year in K-plus is off to a great start. We have spent a lot of time this week establishing our classroom routines and building relationships as we get to know one another. K-plus is a very busy place, and as time goes by these routines and relationships will help us keep a safe, supportive and engaging classroom. We have been extremely impressed by how quickly our class has learned our routines and expectations!
